We’re a small, 2-star, family run hotel in Holyhead, Anglesey, North Wales, right on the Anglesey Coastal Path near the Coastal Park, Holyhead Breakwater and Holyhead Mountain, so many rooms have fabulous views over the sea and Holyhead Mountain in our lucky location. The building is an old farmhouse (so old it has a priest hole) that has seen many renovations over the years, making it a quirky, characterful old place that could tell many stories if the thick, chunky walls could speak! We’re a humble, home-from-home, relaxed, friendly, and informal place, occasionally somewhat Fawlty Towers-esque (but we, the team and most of our customers like/love it as there is always laughter), so a sense of humour is essential!
A series of unfortunate, seemingly Dickensian, events led to us unexpectedly taking over the Boathouse Hotel with only 3-days-notice at the end of October 2023 (it’s more than fair to say we weren’t prepared in the slightest!!). It was in a poor state of repair and was pretty grim, with lights hanging out of ceilings, no heating system in 3 rooms, faulty fire alarms, dirty bathrooms, broken furniture, leaks, and old carpets, but it’s massively improved! We immediately started upgrading the hotel, guest bedrooms, and garden and our 17 ensuite single, double, twin, and family bedrooms are all newly decorated and refurnished, freshly carpeted (with zebra print carpet we love!), and have comfy beds, televisions and tea and coffee making facilities. We’ve also significantly reduced our carbon footprint with many changes across the hotel, including solar panels, a new heating system, motion-sensored lighting, staff training, recycling cooking oil, and more, so we’re a good choice if you are keen to make the environmental choice for your accommodation, breakfast/lunch/dinner, party or function.
We provide accommodation deals and packages for corporate business, direct bookings, and large parties, such as B&B, dinner B&B and can work to your budget. Please contact us directly on 01407 762094 / info@boathousehotelholyhead.com to discuss your requirements. Please note, our reception is not open 24 hours.
Our restaurant seats 120 diners. Our Mediterranean-inspired menu – with some recipes and cooking methods stemming from the family’s Italian roots – is basically good, honest home cooking mixed in with some pub favourites made with produce sourced from local and Welsh suppliers and producers. There is a good variety of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options, so there’s something for every tastebud. Bookings are not necessary but are preferred, particularly for large groups to guarantee a table.
We host functions, weddings, parties, baby showers, wakes, and we will also provide bespoke hot and cold buffets at bespoke prices.
Our bar is stocked with a variety of Welsh ales, lagers, gins, rums, and some old favourites, with selective wines that have been carefully chosen by our volunteer wine specialist, Renato Howard, and are produced in sustainable vineyards with sound environmental working practices. Beverages include local coffee from Cuffed in Coffee and local milk from Llefrith Cybi.
We host various events throughout the year. All events are open to hotel guests, though if you do not intend to join in the musical merriment, please contact us to request a quiet room before you book.
